When we say pet care, dog beds, cooling mats and toys are the ones that first come up to our minds but what we’re forgetting is the food that your dog should and CAN eat.

They say that humans enjoy eating a variety of food. I say dogs can also enjoy what their hoomans are eating. However, remember to always feed dogs human food in moderation and that not all of what we can eat can be shared with our beloved canine companions.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with giving your human delicacies—just be careful not to go overboard with food that contains ingredients that are actually harmful to Bruno over there. Here is a list of some dog-friendly food that you and your furbaby can both enjoy.

#1: Chicken

Who doesn’t like chicken? While humans can eat any chicken recipe, your furbaby should only eat cooked, deboned, and unseasoned chicken. This is an excellent protein-packed meal for your dog. In fact, chicken is one of the most mentioned meals in dog cookbooks for owners providing home-cooked meals to their dogs.

For dogs, baking, boiling, or air frying is your best options. However, also be cautious when feeding your dogs chicken as some dogs can become allergic and will develop skin problems if eating too much chicken.

#2: Beef

This is a crowd favourite, for humans or dogs.

Just like chickens, beef should be cooked without any seasoning. This is safe for dogs, and most of them come back for more beef slices. Feed your dog any cut of beef, but leaner cuts are preferable to those covered in fat (of course, no bones as well).

For us, we like it medium rare but whole cuts like steaks or roasts should be cooked medium or well done when being fed to our doggos. For ground beef, it should be medium-well or more to get rid of the bacteria. Remember, you can’t be giving out raw meat to your dog. That is going to be a huge problem!

#3: Peanut Butter

This one is a K9 favourite! Peanut butter is a treat that you can our dog can both share.

Peanut butter is safe as long as it doesn’t have xylitol or salt or sugar. Xylitol is known to be highly toxic to dogs, so make sure to read your peanut butter’s nutrition label carefully, or better yet create homemade peanut butter for your dog. Not only it’s safe to be consumed by your dog but making homemade treats can be your time to bond and connect as well! If you’re not sure about store-bought peanut butter or even the ones that you are trying to make at home, you can always buy peanut butter for dogs there are lots on the market nowadays! This way, you are sure that it is made especially for dogs. No harmful ingredients whatsoever.

#4: Popcorn

Movie nights are the best!

For those who love to watch movies with their dogs, did you know that they can eat popcorn?

Popcorn without butter or salt is considered safe for your dogs. Just watch out while they eat cause they might choke on uncooked kernels or better yet remove the kernels before your dog can eat them.

Popcorns contain nutritious minerals like zinc, fiber, and manganese while remaining a low-calorie snack.

Now you can enjoy movie nights snacking on popcorn with your dog.

#5: Fruits & Vegetables

Eating healthy with your best furry companion is the more fulfilling feeling than just being healthy all on your own. The following variety of fruits and vegetables can be consumed by your dogs:

Cooked and unseasoned potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, pumpkin, corn, celery, and lettuce.

For fruits, melon, apples, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and cranberries. However, remember that what is healthy for you may not always be healthy for them. There are a number of fruits and vegetables that you MUST NOT feed your dogs. Here is the list of top toxic food for dogs that you should avoid: Foods to avoid

  1. Caffeine
  2. Grapes & Raisins
  3. Macadamia Nuts
  4. Chocolate
  5. Onion
  6. Garlic
