Let's cut to the chase, Labrador Retrievers are one of the world's finest dogs, but we all know how active this breed is. Owning a dog means being responsible for their health and their quality of life. This includes regular veterinary visits, a suitable home, the right food, and habits like exercise. Once you get yourself a labrador retriever puppy, be prepared to run around, picking up their mess, and give a lot of your time to make sure that these particular breeds get the proper training and exercise. Raising labs require a lot of patience and devotion. As an owner, you have to be tough enough to train but soft enough to give your pooch some love and affection.

Getting to know the Labrador Retriever

Even if Labradors are recorded as the most popular dog in the United States of America, they originated in Great Britain, popular as working dogs. Fishermen often brought these dogs to help retrieve fish from the water. This explains their waterproof double coat and their thick and robust tail to help them swim in the water.

There is a reason why the labrador retriever is such a fan favorite. With all the proper training and care, labs will be an excellent family dog. A friendly breed to other dogs and animals, easily trainable, great with young kids, and makes a sporting guard dog as well. However, do note that a lab cannot thrive in a small apartment. Full-grown labradors weigh from 55-80 pounds and stand at about 21-24 inches. Imagine having that in a small space. This dog requires plenty of room to get the proper exercise, drills, and play with other dogs and people. As tough as they look, labrador retrievers can become such big babies. This breed does not tolerate being left alone that much. If you ever decide to go on a trip or know that you will be away for a few days, make sure you have a sitter to watch over your dog or consider bringing them to a dog boarding hotel or facility. This will prevent you from coming home to a frustrated dog with chewed-up pillows and furniture. These dogs come packing with tons of energy. If your dog starts getting into trouble, it's probably because they have all that pent-up energy. Another thing to remember is that labradors gain weight quickly. A lab with a sedentary lifestyle will likely get fat in no time. It may look adorable at first, but similar to humans, obesity has a lot of adverse effects on the overall health and wellbeing of your dog.

Feeding and Proper Care

Once you decide to get yourself or your family a labrador retriever, know that this means a lot of food. Big, high-energy dogs require a lot more food intake than toy dogs or smaller dogs. Depending on your dog's weight, an adult lab may require a minimum of 3 cups of food daily. Make sure that you food your lab only quality dog food or homemade recipes. Take note of the food not to be ingested by dogs and not just labs in general. Some dogs have allergies to a particular food like chicken or eggs. During your dog's puppy years, pay closer attention to these to avoid further complications and issues.

Labradors are active dogs, but it does not mean that you have to bathe them every so often. Since they have a dense waterproof double coat, you only have to bathe them once a month or even every two months. Unless your lab decides to roll in mud or accidentally spill something on their coat, bathing is only kept to a minimum. Labrador Retrievers are heavy shedders. Expect that your home and even most things will have strands of loose hair from your dog. To help address this issue, give your dog a brush every day if you can to make sure that you get all the loose hair, or at least most of it. Since labradors do not have a long coat, there is minimal to zero need to trim their hair. Summing it up, labradors are pretty much low maintenance when it comes to grooming.

The Pet Bed Built for Labrador Retrievers

Now that you know more about Labrador Retrievers, you know that the right bed for this dog breed can become challenging to find. Fortunately, Ambient Lounge is ten steps ahead and already created a pet bed that is suitable for large and active breeds like Labradors.

Looking at a full-grown Labrador, you would think if companies make beds this size, right? Ambient Lounge's luxury pet bed comes in small to extra large to fit bigger dogs like Great Danes. For labs, you have the option to get it in a large size or give your pooch plenty of room to stretch with an XXL pet bed.

The next thing that you will start to think of is dirt. As a fur-mom or fur-dad, you want to maintain a clean space for your fur babies. Ambient Lounge luxury pet beds are waterproof, just like your lab's double coat. The faux fur top that provides extra comfort and warmth is detachable so that you can give it a gentle wash. In the instance where you want to wash the entire bed, you don't have to worry about wringing the whole thing and then placing it under the heat of the sun like most dog beds. You can easily hose it down or wipe it with a clean damp cloth!

One more thing, these pet beds are incredibly soft and comfy but rest assured that Ambient Lounge designed this pet bed to be made with breathable technology, so it does not trap in heat.

If you are finally convinced that your loyal labrador retriever deserves the best pet bed, go on and get your pooch a pair!
